Yellow cosmos
Yellow cosmos grow in my garden. I found some hardy plants growing by the roadside out near Nanango and harvested some seeds. I thought that if they could live in the hard soil of the roadside, they could probably even survive in my garden. They did thrive, indeed the plants are so robust they grow taller than me. They produce happy flowers for quite a portion of the year, so they are usually at hand when I want to add life, colour and happiness to a painting. Each season I collect the seeds from the yellow-flowering plants. That way the plants are not overgrown by the more common orange-flowering variety. Adding the yellow cosmos flowers to a painting is like adding dollops of pure sunlight – pure bottled warm light.
