A Warm Place to Sleep
There is nothing like warm sunlight on a veranda to warm the heart. Just looking at the bright spots of gold is enough to lift the spirits. In this series, the paintings are mostly from one particular veranda at various times of the year. Sometimes the furnishings have been changed, rearranged and modified between the timings of these sketches. The shafts of sunlight flowing through the lattice have their own mystique, they can’t be guessed or simulated, they have to be sketched from life, otherwise they look unnatural, and contrived. With winter upon us I hope these sunny images remind you of warm sunlit days!
