Tithonias

The Blue and White Jug
These blossoms look like sunflowers, but they are Tithonias, sometimes called Mexican Sunflowers or even Japanese Sunflowers. They grow profusely on the banks of a creek in my suburb. In winter they are a riot of colour when not much else is blooming. That’s why they feature among my still life paintings. I have added a photograph of the actual plant and also a couple of paintings of real sunflowers so you can see the difference.

A photograph of the real plant and it’s flowers.
