The Tin Fence

Tin Fence, Warwick
I sketched an old tin fence in Warwick and entitled the finished painting, “Tin Fence, Warwick.” The painting sold straight off, but when I looked in the exhibition catalogue, it listed the title as, “Tin Fence Warrior,” thus promoting the sleeping black cat in the picture to a fierce, gnarled, old tom cat. Obviously my writing skills were sub par at the time and someone misread my handwriting.

Walking the Dog

Dogwalkers
Undaunted, I used the same sketch for another version of the fence at Warwick. I never do two paintings the same, so I added some dog walkers in front of the fence. Those paintings also sold quickly, so I did another painting showing a horse walking past the tin fence. Once again that painting sold quickly, but I haven’t revisited the subject since then!

The Grey Horse

Old Shed, Jericho

Tin Shed, Jericho, Central Queensland
However galvanised iron was a favourite building material in earlier times so there are many similar subjects, especially in quiet country towns. Other examples I have used here are from Jericho and Childers. I have also included examples of tin fencing being used in earlier times as a wall for gardens and chicken coops.
