I paint on weekdays, but Saturday is my gardening day. I have always been a keen gardener and these days I’m often growing things to paint. Brisbane is sub tropical and I can grow plants all year round, though the plants grow slowly in our mild winters. It’s a constant battle with the wildlife: possums, caterpillars, grasshoppers etc. attack everything I grow.
I have included a photo from the bottlebrush tree in my garden. When it’s in bloom, I don’t have to go far for inspiration for a painting. Other varieties of bottlebrush grow in the local streets or on the local creek banks.
My next exhibition of paintings will be held at the Metcalfe Gallery, Brisbane institute of Art, from 27th August to the 8th September, 2021.
