Many of the farms where I have sketched have cows, even if it’s only one or two to provide milk for the farmhouse. Thus, many of my farm paintings include cows. They are easy to sketch, as they are a slow-moving placid animal. Almost all the cattle in these paintings are dairy cattle. They are very used to being around humans and so they just go on feeding and completely ignore me, even though I am a stranger to them. Two of the paintings are of the show cows at the Ekka and their owners.
