The Brass Pot

The Fried Egg plant in my garden has burst into bloom, a sure sign that winter is fast approaching and the camellias will soon be ready to pose for still life painting. Camellias and gordonias (Fried Egg plant) both flower in early winter. At that time of year there is a general dearth of good flowers to paint, so that makes them a natural still life subject. I have a gordonia plant growing in a pot in my garden, it’s very convenient, I just bring the whole plant into the studio when I want to set up a still life painting.

Fried Egg Flowers

Winter blooming camellias are in an old teapot. A small vase with a floral decoration is nearby. Some camellia flowers have fallen on the log cabin embroidered cloth.
