Chickens

Quenching a Thirst

Waiting by the Gate

Roaming Free
Chickens are wonderful things to paint. They have ridiculous way of strutting around, as if filled with self importance! My mother in law had about a dozen chickens and I would often sketch them. I would sit in the middle of their enclosure with my pencil and drawing pad handy. However on the first day the chickens would just scatter and hide. By the second day they would venture out carefully and by the third day they had learned to ignore me. I could then sketch away in earnest. Scattering a little of their favourite grains near my feet also helped the chickens get used to me. I hope you enjoy my selection of chicken paintings.
