Washing, Venice
Venice Canals
Artists flock to Venice to try to catch the atmosphere of decaying grandeur of that place. Several years ago I spent a couple of weeks in Cannaregio, living in a building that had once housed an order of monks. My typical day in Venice would see me up and out on the canals before sunrise, to see the warm morning light on the buildings. I would sketch several places and about 9 or 10am retire to the room for breakfast. Around 3pm I would venture out again to sketch the afternoon light and the darkening shadows. I hope you enjoy the finished paintings.
