With the virus sweeping the country and getting worse by the day, I thought that my post today should be something to cheer us all up. So the topic today is Sunflowers. Giant happy faces that can cheer everyone up. Here in Queensland the sunflowers crops are just coming into bloom at the moment, so they are also topical for that reason.
Sunflowers turn their face to the sun as the day progresses and this is a difficulty for a still life painter. Just when they are set up nicely, they decide to do their own thing and to slowly swing round to face the spotlight.
Painting sunflowers is something most children have done at school. Their happy faces are easy to draw and easy to colour in. So they carry with them all the happiness and innocence of childhood. All good memories of the kind we need just now!
So as the dark storm clouds of virus are all around us, we can look forward, like the sunflowers to the time when the sun will come up over the hill, bright and new!
