How Southbank Market was painted
This overall scene of this painting was sketched on site at Southbank (Qld) market. Then as people walked into and out of the picture, I sketched individuals separately. Later, in the studio I used gouache to pick out the brighter colours of the tents and I chose the figures I wanted from the dozens I had sketched. They were then incorporated into the working outline of the painting. The blue under painting shows through in the buildings and trees of the finished painting.
