Horses
One day I came across a group of horses in a paddock, I didn’t know who owned them, but the horses seemed friendly enough and there were some striking piebalds among them. So on the next day I brought my sketching gear and settled down in the paddock to draw. It is usually difficult drawing a group of animals which are constantly on the move. The sketch is mostly just a series of quick impressions of the animals against a more detailed background, but all in all it was going quite well.
Then, when I opened my pencil case to take something out, one of the foals wondered if I might have some treat in my hand and came to ask for it. Some of the adult horses then thought the same thing and also came to investigate. It is hard enough sketching a group of moving horses without having a large horse head obscuring the page (and probably dribbling on it!) However, I managed to get some impressions and I have attached the paintings that resulted from those sketches.
