How 'Farm, Rockhampton' was Crafted
 |
This farm lies on the banks of Coorooman Creek, between Rockhampton
and Emu Park. It is a typical farm with big shady green tree
and a profusion of sheds and animals. I sketched the sheds and
the house from a variety of angles. The shadows of the tree
and in the sheds will be an important part of the composition
(the darkest dark) and I roughly block in the tree and its shadow
early in the painting. |

|
The painting is
on lead priming so I can put
paint on and wipe it off again until I'm satisfied with the
composition.
|

|
Once the painting
is dry, some of the more detailed elements are added over
the top. |

Finishing off is
a matter of adding more darks and lights to extend the tonal
range and give a sense of depth. |
